Altare dell’Ordine Agostiniano
L’altare è dedicato all’Ordine degli Agostiniani Scalzi. Tale Ordine, dal 1696 fino ad oggi, si prende cura del Santuario della Madonna di Valverde. Il dipinto raffigura in alto la Madonna fra gli angeli che consegna la cintura a S. Monica, madre di S. Agostino e figura importantissima per il processo di conversione del Santo. Nella parte di sinistra del dipinto è raffigurato, in atto di contemplazione, S. Agostino. L’opera reca in basso la data 1710, anno della sua realizzazione. Questa opera, di autore ignoto, presenta un linguaggio pittorico dalle pennellate rapide e riprende modelli pittorici diffusi nell’area messinese.
Altar of the Augustinian Order
The altar is dedicated to the Order of Discalced Augustinians. Since 1696, is this order who takes care of the Shrine. The painting illustrates, on the top, the Virgin among the angels; She is delivering the belt to Saint Monica, Saint Augustine’s mother, that was a very important figure in his conversion. On the left, we can see Saint Augustine in the act of contemplating. Below, you can see a date, 1710, year of the painting’s realisation. This work, with an unknown painter, has a pictorial language characterized by quick brushstrokes. Its style recalls the pictorial models of the Messina territory.
